When the Future Had Fins Maya, Photoshop February 2007

I was always fascinated with the futurism of the 1950's. From the coffee shop architecture designed to look like futuristic space ports to the concept cars inspired by the fighter jets of the era.
I also have a love for roadside diner art, so I decided to put both together in this one piece. Although primarily done in Photoshop, the diner itself was modeled in an ancient copy of Strata Studio Pro.
The foreground car was built in Maya, and is the first complicated model I ever made with Maya. It was a concept car designed by Ford in 1955 called the FX Atmos. In real life it was a non functional showcar mad for the auto show circuit. Ford destroyed it in the mid 1960's and I believe I'm the first person to make a model of the car in fifty years.
The Flo-bot android waitresses are my nod to Hajime Sorayama. Although not retro fifties, I think they fit here.
